The program was introduced in the school project during May 2010. This was brought about by sponsorship of smart board technology into four schools by Middelburg Ferro Chrome. The program was used to train Grade 11 and Grade 12 students after school hours in trade specific courses. This forms part of an accelerated Artisan Program introduced by Middelburg Ferro Chrome in the Middelburg area.

The reaction from students and facilitators was very positive – they are definitely giving the program the “thumbs up”.

Students enjoy the interactive games and activities and learn new skills without even realising it. This makes the learning process much faster, more interesting and cost effective. It also gives the students a chance to practise without being exposed to dangerous situations – the pictures and simulations create a real life atmosphere and make the understanding of new material easy.

For facilitators the structured layout and different facets of the DVDs make presenting a dream. It not only incorporates theory with practice, but also assesses along the way. The fact that assessments and activities can be repeated makes it easy to involve all students. Minimum learning aids are necessary due to photos and activities.

This is a wonderful innovation to make effective training as easy as pressing a button.
