New systems for Presbyterian Theological College, Sydney
…The P.A. People updates Christ College
Christ College is an affiliated College of the Australian College of Theology. With heritage aspects to the project, The P.A. People approached this task with the experience of 40 years working on traditional buildings that date back 150 years. With the re-build of College facilities, there is now a new library, training rooms and a new chapel with overflow hospitality area.
The task included audio, vision and lighting installations.
Audio
The system comprised JBL FOH CBT-series speakers, Crown amplifiers, BSS Blu series DSP, Soundcraft Expression 1 mixing console and Shure wireless microphones
Vision
Components included: NEC PA-500UG projector and 180” motorized screen; Video signals are transported over HDBaseT infrastructure; vision switching via AMX DVX-3155SP presentation switcher. The complete audio, visual and lighting systems are controlled through AMX via two NXD series touch panels – one from stage and one from the mix position.
The P.A. People also installed a Sony PTZ camera, mounted to rear of chapel connected to an Epiphan lecture recorder, essentially providing networked-based video streaming – enabling remote access for students and other audiences.
Lighting
A simple FOH setup was provided, with modest fixtures; a single lighting bar is positioned to light the stage and showcases the stage floor which is built from 100+ year-old refurbished timber.
Project Manager for The P.A. People, Josh Jones said; “the College also has several LCD screens and we provided a digital signage solution using Spinetix HMP200 players and Elementi software. It is easily managed over their network from one computer.
Training was provided to the client’s staff with the AMX control allowing user-friendly capability.

History of Christ College
The Theological Hall, as it was then known, was established in 1873 by the N.S.W. Presbyterian Assembly to provide training for Presbyterian ministers. As the Presbyterian Training Institute, it was given a wider range of responsibilities in 1983 when it moved from St Andrews College, University of Sydney, to Ashfield.
Since 1987 it has operated under its present name at Burwood in Sydney. The PTC is involved in training pastors, church planters, deaconesses, missionaries, chaplains and youth workers and others who simply want a better understanding of God’s word and better skills for communicating their faith. The emphasis of the Centre is on practical Bible-based training which is ministry oriented. There is also a great flexibility in the way the teaching resources of the Centre may be utilised to the best advantage by any individual.
While being under the Presbyterian Church, the Centre is an affiliated institution of the Australian College of Theology delivering the ACT’s undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and diplomas.
